DUSTI BOWLING AT BLAKE!

Blake 6th Graders were treated to a wonderful presentation by author, Dusti Bowling yesterday. Dusti traveled from her home state of Arizona and told how her love of the desert - including tarantulas, snakes and other creepy-crawlies - along with her love if family, inspires her writing. Her passion for family and the desert often drives her writing. She suggests that Blake students try to find their passion - in writing or anything else they are interested in, which will inspire to persevere when hurdles come up. She told us it took her ten years from deciding to become a full-time writer to getting her first book published - it's important to hang in there through the rejection! The process also taught her to better accept constructive criticism, which greatly improved her writing. She also suggested students be careful with their screen time - don't multitask - and to make an effort to be outside in the natural world and to read books! Thanks to Jim James of Park Street Books, and teachers Kerry Cowell, Elise Malone, Kathleen Caprio, Eileen Hurley and Sarah Pratt for all of their efforts in bringing the presentation to life.
